Buddha's Wine
Buddha's Wines will be crafted from interesting grape varieties grown on Stuart Wines Co. vineyards at Heathcote and the Yarra Valley.

These varieties, less common in Australia, will include Tempranillo, Nebbiolo, Viognier and Sangiovese. The wines will be fruit-driven, early drinking styles, made to allow full expression of the varietal and regional characteristics. The quality and the retail price will be determined by our panel judges to ensure the quality of each Buddha's Wine will meet or exceed its recommended retail value.

In addition to Buddh's Wine, a second range of super premium wines will be produced called 'Tears of Buddha'. 'Tears of Buddha' is representative of the tears that Buddha shed for the suffering of the just and innocent believing in the restorative properties of the tears. 'Tears of Buddha' wines will only be crafted from outstanding vintages from within Stuart Wines Co or donations made by other wineries and bottled in 1.5L magnums with each bottle numbered and sold by auction. The entire proceeds of the sale of these wines will be contributed to the Buddha's Wine Global Children's Fund. A limited amount of these wines will be made each year, with a maximum of approximately 500, if the quality of the wines meets the 'Tears of Buddha' standard. The purchasers of 'Tears of Buddha' wine will be acknowledged, should they choose, on the Buddha's Wine website.

Supporting Growers

Another key feature of the Buddha's Wine concept is to assist grape growers who are unable to sell their grapes at a reasonable price to a winery. This situation is common in Australia at present, where an oversupply of grapes has resulted in many grape growers being forced to leave grapes unpicked on the vines. Buddha's Wine will give growers faced with this problem the opportunity to supply their grapes to Stuart Wines Co to be processed into Buddha's Wine and Stuart Wines Co will pay for the wine processing costs.

The grapes from each parcel will be released as a single entity Buddha's Wine, with the source of grapes acknowledged on the back label. The grape grower will be repaid returned with labelled Buddha's Wine equivalent in volume to a wholesale price per bottle based on $1,000 per tonne for the grapes. The grower may choose to take all or none of the wine. Any wine not taken by the grower will be sold by Stuart Wines Co with all other proceeds of the sale returned to the grower valued at the wholesale price. Stuart Wines Co will not make any profit or commission from the sales of these wines.
